The Office of Government Affairs coordinates and facilitates Stanford University’s and Stanford Health Care’s (SHC) interactions with all levels of government, as well as its relationship with neighboring communities. The office promotes the interests of the University’s and SHC’s key constituents through contact with the community, public officials, involvement with educational organizations, tracking of pertinent legislation, and direct advocacy on a wide variety of issues from land use policies to funding for the basic sciences to health care. The Office of Government Affairs supports the university’s academic mission of teaching and research and SHC’s mission by serving as the primary point of contact between the university, hospital, and our partners in federal, state and local governments.

Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Community Health Equity & Partnerships is a pivotal role in planning, developing, and implementing the approach to community health, health equity, and community benefit at SHC, in coordination with Stanford University and the School of Medicine. works cross-functionally to achieve industry-leading community health, equity, and benefits as measured by setting and meeting department and organizational business and financial goals, quality and safety measures, compliance requirements, and overall performance goals.
In this role you will:
- Design and lead community-based engagement and investments that employ evidence-based practices, advance strategic priorities and organization and enterprise goals, and satisfy state and federal regulatory requirements; create integrated approaches to community investments, partner engagement and management, and strategies and initiatives that address health needs assessments.
- Manage a small team of community health professionals to execute key goals and strategy for Community Health & Partnerships.
- Develop and execute short-term and multi-year strategic and operational plans in consultation with SHC, Stanford Medicine, and community-based stakeholders; monitor and regularly report initiative scope, progress, budget, and impact measures; solicit and incorporate input and evaluation from diverse stakeholders and audiences; integrate with other internal and external strategic initiatives.
- Lead Community Health and Partnership Steering Committee, Co-chair enterprise Health Equity Community Partnerships Steering Committee, lead and represent the department at community convenings that address broad and systemic community health needs on the international, national, state, and local levels.
- Develop and execute a communication strategy for the promotion and engagement of internal and external stakeholders that elevates SHC’s reputation as a dedicated and effective partner in improving community health, equity, and benefits
- Liaison to other Stanford entities, such as SOM: Dean’s Office, Office of Community Engagement, Department of Primary Care and Population Health, Department of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Marketing and Communications.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Extensive experience in public/community health strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Expert knowledge of local communities, government, nonprofit communities, and public/community health.
- Experience developing integrated strategies that will leverage community resources and address community health needs.
- Experience with designing and leading community-focused engagement and investment initiatives that utilize evidence-based practices to further SHC's mission.
- Experience in strategic communications, public relations, or stakeholder engagement, preferably in a nonprofit, healthcare, or community-focused organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including community partners, government agencies, business owners, industry leaders, and the general public to promote collaboration and drive engagement.
- Collaborative team player: willingness and ability to reach out to many constituencies and understand their needs and priorities; an ability to move a group to consensus; strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Ability to diplomatically resolve problems and build key relationships.
- Experience in shaping public attitude through the effective use of communication.
- Proficient computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software, email applications, and working knowledge of programs such as Photoshop, Keynote, and Constant Contact.
Working Conditions:
May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.
The expected pay range for this position is $185,736-$237,191 per annum.
