Communities In Schools is hiring a Director of Volunteer Engagement & Youth Enrichment Programs (YEP) who is responsible for strategies encompassing the Communities In Schools of Central Texas’ volunteer program, including comprehensive program recruitment practices, screening, placement, orientation, training, record keeping and evaluation. The Director engages program staff and program volunteers in setting and pursuing best practices, driving continuous improvement, and developing and implementing innovative structures that will benefit all CISCT programs.

The Director is also responsible for developing, planning, implementing, supervising and evaluating a comprehensive youth enrichment program, including out-of-school-time and summer youth programs. In addition, this position will be responsible for developing and leading staff training related to working with volunteers and youth enrichment topics and activities.

What we offer:

CIS offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The starting salary range for this position is $5,000/mo. Salaries are determined by qualifications and relevant experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and midpoint, depending on experience and in alignment with internal equity.

What you’ll bring:

  • 5+ years of experience leading volunteer engagement, recruitment and training
  • 5+ years of leading experiential, enriching youth programs
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in planning and developing camp, recreational, and/or out-of-school program curricula
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and facilitating events for small and large groups of students and families
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce and lead change management initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience using qualitative and quantitative data to create reports and make internal and external presentations
  • Demonstrated experience in executing projects effectively with little direction
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills to effectively supervise projects to completion
  • Bachelor’s degree required in business administration or management, marketing, communications or related field
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and volunteer management
  • Knowledge of effective marketing practices
  • Solid public speaking, written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be personable yet persuasive
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce and lead change management initiatives
  • Highest level of attention to detail and the ability to stay organized and keep work moving forward with many simultaneous projects and goals
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently on complex initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with humility, an open mind, and a sense of urgency

What you’ll do:

Volunteer Engagement

  • Develop & execute local and rural community outreach strategies with Communications & Programs departments to increase awareness of CIS across Central Texas and increase number of people entering the volunteer pipeline from all areas CIS serves
  • Assess the organization’s need for volunteers to support CISCT programs in collaboration with program leadership
  • Plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of CISCT volunteer positions and opportunities
  • Create and maintain/update volunteer program materials (volunteer position descriptions, policies and procedures, applications, volunteer agreements, orientation handbooks, training programs, etc.)
  • Screen (interviews, required background checks, etc.) and match volunteers to organizational needs and opportunities
  • Create and/or maintain a streamlined group volunteer scheduling process
  • Manage the database(s) used for tracking volunteers, projects and service hours to ensure accurate statistics and reporting
  • Identify and facilitate volunteer and staff development and training needs, and provide solutions
  • Evaluate volunteer behavioral trends and work strategically to increase retention, and “lifetime contribution” to CIS through service, donations & advocacy.
  • Develop strong working relationships with community-based organizations, including knowledge of their programs and offer consultative and resource support on volunteer management issues as needed
  • Actively engage existing corporate volunteer groups and proactively search for securing increased support from current corporate groups while expanding involvement from new corporate entities
  • Guide CIS program teams to provide a positive, mission-focused experience for our volunteers, showing appreciation and capitalizing on the use of their skills/talents, including the annual appreciation event
  • Design and execute the annual volunteer survey to determine additional opportunities for growth and improvement
  • Align with Development and Communications teams to secure volunteers for third party events and manage volunteers at CISCT signature events

Youth Enrichment Program

  • Build partnerships with volunteers, community members, neighborhood organizations, public and/or private agencies and other organizations in seeking extracurricular opportunities for CIS youth
  • Establish short and long-range priorities, objectives and goals that lead to high-quality, year-round experiential opportunities for students
  • Participate in regular Programs Team meetings, working together to find ways to standardize, improve and expand services and support for students
  • Create and manage summer and out-of-school time standards, policies and procedures and risk management plans, serve as a subject matter expert
  • Plan and coordinate various age-appropriate summer programs
  • Lead collective summer program planning workshops
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate part‐time and seasonal employees to deliver programming to youth
  • Ensure effective systems to track outcomes and regularly evaluate program components to ensure that the requirements of funders are met and that outcomes measurements are produced that can be effectively communicated to stakeholders and drive program improvement

General Management and Administration

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to the Community Engagement and Youth Enrichment Specialist in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures to fulfill the expectations of the volunteer and programs
  • Assist in preparing and negotiating contracts applications and agreements
  • Assist in budget preparation and contract/agreements administration
  • Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem-solving
  • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and Chief Advocacy Officer
     

Reporting structure: This position is supervised by the Sr. Director of Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships and may supervise CIS staff, volunteers, work-study students, interns, or AmeriCorps members as appropriate.  

Worksite: This is a full-time, position based at Communities In Schools of Central Texas’ St. Elmo office with frequent travel within the Central Texas 5-county region. The Director will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
